RPG MAKER Day 3: NPCs & Dialogue.

  1. START TOWN

Sunlight spills across a cobblestone square. Market stalls are only half-open. Steam rises from food carts. The town is waking, not yet aware of what it will lose.

A young Adventurer, Stan, stands still amid the movement, hands at his sides. Everyone else seems to know where they are going.

A woman brushes past him—too close.

Stan looks down. His coin pouch is lighter.

He turns.

The Thief, Sibyl, already several steps away, glances back just long enough to smile.

Sibyl: “You should hold onto what matters.”

She disappears into the crowd.

Stan hesitates… then exhales, almost amused.

This is not a world that waits for him.


2. BULLETIN BOARD, SHADOWED EDGE OF THE SQUARE

A wooden board creaks as a new notice is nailed into place.

Knight Roz stands before it, armor catching the light. The paper reads Missing. Missing. Missing.

Behind her, Defender Apolonia stands perfectly still, shield grounded, posture unyielding.

Roz: “They’re getting closer.”

Apolonia: “Then we hold longer.”

Roz’s hand lingers on the hilt of her sword.


3. BLACKSMITH

Hammer strikes metal.

Each blow echoes through the morning.

The hammer keeps striking.


4. MAGIC SHOP

Dust motes hang in the air like stars.

A spellbook levitates between Spellcaster Hilda’s hands, pages turning on their own.

Across the table, Healer Gladis carefully ties off a bandage, even though no one is bleeding.

Gladis: “Power always asks for more.”

Hilda: “So does mercy.”

The spellbook snaps shut.


5. INN

Music drifts through warm air.

A Bard plays softly. Laughter follows.

At a nearby table, Brawler Hina cracks her knuckles, smiling too wide.

The Elderly Inn Keeper watches her carefully.

Inn Keeper: “I just replaced that table.”

The Bard hits a wrong note on purpose.

Everyone laughs.

For a moment, the world feels safe.


6. PARK, QUIET CORNER

Wind moves gently through trimmed hedges.

An Old Master sits on a bench, eyes half-closed.

Hina throws a punch—fast, unfocused.

He doesn’t open his eyes.

Old Master: “Strength without patience is just noise.”

Hina: “…Teach me to listen.”

The Old Master finally smiles.


7. DOCKS, WATER LAPPING

Crates stacked high. Ropes creaking.

Stan stands at the edge, staring into dark water.

Lan stands beside him now, unseen until she speaks.

Stan: “Do you ever feel like something’s watching?”

Lan: “If it is—don’t turn your back.”

A ripple breaks the surface.

Neither of them moves.


8. CASTLE BALCONY

High above the town, the Queen looks outward.

Beside her kneels the Elephant Knight, massive, unmoving.

Queen: “The land remembers every wound.”

Elephant Knight: “Then let me bear the next.”

Below them, the town looks small.

Fragile.


9. LIBRARY, DEEP SHADOWS

Rows of towering shelves.

Candles flicker.

A hooded figure—the Dark Sorceror—runs a gloved finger along an ancient mural.

A scholar speaks nervously.

Scholar: “That figure vanished centuries ago.”

Sorceror (quietly): “No.”

The candle goes out.


10. RUINS OUTSIDE TOWN, DUSK

Broken stone. Long shadows.

A second Stan stands alone.

The Hellion Crown rests heavy on his head.

He grips it, trembling.

The Dark Sorceror’s voice echoes—not seen.

Sorceror: “You feel it, don’t you?”

Hellion Stan: “I wish I didn’t.”

The crown glows faintly.

Something ancient stirs.


11. CATHEDRAL, NIGHT

Candles line the floor.

Clerics whisper prayers.

Stone Gargoyles loom overhead.

One pair of stone eyes opens.


12. FINAL MONTAGE

  • Roz draws her sword halfway.
  • Hilda closes her spellbook, breath unsteady.
  • Sibyl flips a stolen coin into the air.
  • Gladis washes blood from her hands.
  • Hina bows to the Old Master.
  • Lan notches an arrow.
  • Hellion Stan lowers his crown.
  • The Dark Sorceror smiles.
